Here is a very rare two-volume series on the history of the Graf Zeppelin, but also on the history of German zeppelins from 1899 onwards. In the first book alone, there are 264 beautiful images, almost all 2 x 2 1/2 inches in size with large graphics, maps and illustrations. The images, although small, are razor sharp and truly are photographic masterpieces. Whenever these rare books are found, they are usually in rather poor condition. These pasted images are often incomplete and several are missing. These two are practically in excellent condition and all the images are there! Volume I begins with a photo of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin and then continues with the story of the zeppelins with magnificent images. The second volume with 156 images opens with an image of Hermann Göring, who, as Reichsminister für Luftfahrt, did a lot for the Zeppelin program. Without him it would never have started. A couple of pages later there is a magnificent gold plaque dedicated to FregattenkapitänPeter Strasser, who was, in 1916, the leader of the airships. This hero and his crew died on August 5, 1918, while leading the last zeppelin raid of the war. The German people loved these zeppelin crews, and each raid against England was met with the biggest fanfare in all of Germany. The British, however, were seething with rage, so much so that when an airship crashed into the sea, a nearby British fishing boat violated the "Ocean Code" by not saving the airship's crew, watching them drown instead. Typical? Yes, typical? This type of British warfare was often repeated. Example: A large part of Bismarck's crew was drowned after she was sunk under the command of the skipper of the British ship that defeated her. The second volume explores the various journeys in the world of Graf Zeppelin. The photos measure 3 x 2 1/2 inches and are very clear and sharp. The condition of this volume is 99 percent as good as Volume I with a small scratch here and there on the cover. Plus, it's 100% complete. The set is practically unobtainable in these conditions and is rarely found in both volumes matched. Good vision
